Chapter Seven

Something about his brother having a child made Nicholae feel hope.

It was a chance for them all to get it right this time.

~Nicholae Dracovin

THE ROOM WENT SILENT. No one moved or spoke. Except for the vampire.

Vlad leaned forward and demanded. “Midnight is pregnant?”

All eyes were on the couple waiting for some sign. Some affirmation of what they all so desperately wanted.

When Midnight nodded, chaos ruled!

Within moments all the Dragon Witches who had left the room to go save the earth had returned. The level of noise and craziness rose as everyone exclaimed over the new dragon-child.

Matei stepped away from his mate and pulled Nicholae with him. “Come with me.” He said quietly. Yousef joined them as they walked down the hall.

“Did you do that on purpose?” Nico asked his brother. “Drop that bomb so you would have time to talk to me alone?”

Yousef snorted. “He is not that devious.” He frowned when he noticed the grin on his brother’s face. “Are you?”

He grinned. It was an incredible door.

When Matei was sure he’d seen enough, he pulled it open and let Nico move in first.

Both Matei and Yousef stood back and let him gawk for a moment in silence.

Nicholae could not believe his eyes. The room was several stories high and capped off with a stained-glass ceiling showcasing dragons in flight. The colored glass allowed muted sunshine to trickle into the room.

As they entered, several lights came on, highlighting seating arrangements and sections of books. Nicholae looked at his brothers and raised an eyebrow.

Matei grinned. “Dragon Home is magical. Midnight says that it will provide everyone the things they need to feel comfortable. That is true for those who live here, and even for those who visit often. As it allows Vlad to pull his pranks and surprises,” he groused.

Nico looked around at the books. So many books. There was a spiral staircase that provided access to the other levels. Each level encircled the room with more bookshelves and more books. He could see that some of the volumes were extremely old, some newer. And there were scrolls and computers also mixed in, spread over tables on the main floor.

He saw several ancient books enclosed in glass cases, open so you could read a
